Be sure to tune into The Sound of Music: Live! tonight at 8PM on NBC! This will be a live television event, meaning that the actors will be performing in real time, and their performance will be aired at the very moment that they perform. This calls to mind the original magic of television, which in part was to bring theatre to those who could not experience it live. This past week, my classes have been discussing why airing the performance live is so special. Many agreed that there is a magic in something being live, in the moment, when anything can happen. Knowing that there is no clapboard to call "Cut!," and no "Take two," gives a performance a certain energy that is specific to theatre. I am excited to see how this energy translates to the stage!
I found a YouTube series that goes into great detail about the making of the television event. I have posted the link to part one below. Be sure to check out all of the video clips on YouTube!
